Cool northern-central Europe


Wednesday
An area of low pressure moves eastwards across northern-central Europe, bringing heavy rain and blustery winds to the Low Countries, and much of Germany, clearing from the west. Rain spreads to western Poland through the day. Bursts of rain breaking out for Switzerland and Austria. A cold front brings patchy rain to central-eastern France, whilst areas near the English Channel become increasingly sunny, and feeling fresh at 20 to 23C. Up to 33C on the south coast of France, but breezy with a Mistral wind.
Hot and dry across the Mediterranean, Iberia and also south-eastern Europe. Temperatures over 40C in southern Spain and Portugal. Mid-30s Celsius widely across Italy, the Balkans and Greece . Scattered thunderstorms for Romania and Ukraine.
Unsettled for Scandinavia, with heavy showers or longer periods of rain for Finland, northern Norway & Sweden. Drier toward the south, although windy for Denmark and south-west Norway. Some rain may clip the far south of Sweden later.


Thursday
Pressure builds from the west across Europe. Fair weather across France, Germany and the Low Countries, feeling fresh across north-central Europe, 18 to 23C. Breezy for southern Scandinavia and eastern Europe. Low pressure over north-eastern Europe brings heavy rain for Poland, moving eastwards. Some prolonged heavy falls for the Baltic states and southern Finland. A ridge of high pressure builds across Norway and Sweden giving a fair day, but northern areas will be showery.
Meanwhile, southern Europe stays hot and dry. Soaring temperatures for central & south-western Spain and Portugal, locally heading into the mid-40s Celsius. Cooler with a breeze around Biscay coasts. Italy, Greece and areas near the Black Sea will reach 33 to 38C. Dry but breezy for the Alpine region and Balkans. A few showers possible in northern Italy.
