Strong to gale force winds around Biscay & western Med


Saturday
Stormy winds affecting in western France during the early morning will ease, but it will remain windy across western Europe into the daytime. Heavy rain affects northern Spain and Portugal, spreading eastwards. South-eastern Spanish costas should see some warm sunshine, locally up to 20C. A brisk south-westerly breeze affects the western Mediterranean. Areas of persistent rain for central Italy and also some Balkan coasts. Chance of showers in Greece and western Turkey.
Persistent rain spreads across France, extending into the Low Countries and western Germany, and giving snow over the western Alps. Drier toward central-eastern Europe. Rain and snow moves across eastern Ukraine into Russia. A weak front pushes north into southern Scandinavia, bringing rain or drizzle to southern Norway and Sweden - snow over the mountains. Largely dry but cloudy around the Baltic Sea. Some snow flurries for Finland.


Sunday
Low pressure continues to affect western Europe, pushing heavy rain and strong winds eastwards across Spain and France. Unsettled too across the western Mediterranean, and heavy rain affects western Italy. Wet too for the Balkan coast. Meanwhile pressure builds toward south-western Spain and Portugal, bringing a bright day here. Fair weather for the eastern Mediterranean, although a few showers around Greece and the Black Sea.
Some snow for the western Alps, and patchy rain around some North Sea coasts, but much of Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic should stay dry. An increasingly cold easterly wind affects the Baltic states and western Russia. Outbreaks of rain and snow around the Carpathian mountains. Largely dry across Scandinavia, with high pressure centred toward the north. Drizzly around southern Norway and Denmark.
