Total deposition Iodine-131 Bq/m2 240h Fukushima

Total deposition of iodine-131 at ground level between March 15th and March 25th 2011. Data was calculated using model simulation assuming a constant release of iodine-131 of 10 to the power of 17 Bq/day.

Under the assumption of an iodine-131 emission of 10 to the power of 17 Bq/day ZAMG calculated the total deposition of iodine-131 through precipitation and ground contact from March 15th to March 25th 2011. Since the actual emission rate is not known this is called a potential exposure map. Maximum values are concentrated around the nuclear plant. Exposure would be of the order of 2 magnitudes less in the Greater Tokyo area. Due to prevailing winds areas of exposure extend far into the Pacific. In this simulation large parts of Japan have not yet been affected at all by the accident.
