Widely hot across the continent

Heatwave conditions across south & south-western Europe - topping 40C in south-west Spain and southern Portugal. The south of France and Italy also into the mid to high 30s Celsius. Thunderstorms breaking out over the western Alps, and across the Balkan states. Much of Greece should stay dry. Thundery for Romania, and scattered downpours for Slovakia and the Czech Republic, perhaps fringing into the south & east of Poland. Dry across the north and west of France and the Low Countries. Hot and humid for Germany, 27 to 32C, with a few afternoon storms. A few thundery outbreaks for eastern Sweden and southern Finland, where temperatures will reach 30C. Much of southern Sweden and Norway will be dry. Fresher for Norway 19 to 25C.


Thursday
Searing heat across Iberia, temperatures climbing to 42 to 45C in south-west Spain and Portugal, locally a degree or so higher. Around 35C in north-east Spain. Hot across much of Europe, 32 to 37C for central and southern France, nearer 27C in northern France; dry with plenty of sunshine. Similar temperatures for Italy, and widely into the 30s across central-eastern Europe. Thunderstorms breaking out for the Alps, Carpathians and Balkan mountainous regions. Dry around the Black Sea, and most Mediterranean coasts. Lots of dry weather too across the Low Countries, northern Germany, Poland and southern Scandinavia. A few showers for western Norway, and some thunder in northern Sweden. Hitting 30C again in Finland, with local thunderstorms.
