Issued: 0530hrs Friday 13th July 2018
Duty forecaster: Matthew Hugo

Scattered heavy showers or downpours are possible across some areas of Europe to end the week, but plenty of dry weather too and very warm.

Friday
During Friday and low pressure will remain slow moving across more eastern areas of Germany and into Poland with a further risk of some showers, thunderstorms and perhaps longer spells of rain. Scattered heavy downpours are forecast across inland areas of Norway, Sweden and Finland during the afternoon too with local thunderstorms. Fine weather, overall, is maintained across the UK down into France and Iberia, but across inland areas of Spain afternoon thundery downpours remain possible. Equally, some locally heavy showers may also develop across the Balkans on Friday and down into Greece and Turkey where they could be locally severe. Many areas of Europe very warm or hot, especially in the south and west.

Saturday
Into Saturday and high pressure across most of the UK and northern areas of France, into Belgium too will maintain mainly dry conditions here and very warm weather too. More southern areas of France, along with much of Spain and Portugal will be very warm or hot but with afternoon thunderstorms developing, especially across Spain. Similarly heavy afternoon showers remain a risk across Scandinavia, especially inland areas and over the mountains. Weak area of low pressure across Poland and some other areas of Europe maintains showery weather here, perhaps with thunder, while much of the Med maintains very warm or hot conditions with plenty of sunshine but with scattered heavy, thundery downpours during the afternoon and evening, especially across Greece and Turkey where pressure is forecast to be lower.
